Role
Phil (Lead)
DNA by Dennis Kelly was my first ever performance that I had participated in. It was initially a nerve-racking experience as Phil was overall a complex but understandable character. He didn't talk very much however, was mostly present in each scene. I had an introduction to deep analysation with a single character to help better understand intentions and circumstances. This certainly proved to be more challenging as Phil rarely spoke in conversation however, would have commanding monologues for characters/performers/audience to listen to.
I developed a lot of skills with this character considering he was my first, that it feels unnecessary to state them.Â
The rehearsal process was a brand new experience to me. I got a feel for the connection between the Director and Actor and how much both roles have to communicate with each other to understand the overall vision of a performance. I got to take a small look into animal studies to help better understand my role as Phil. I had an introduction to status between characters.
Notes - This was a huge thing for me, as being critiqued on a performance was something I've never been familiar with up until this point in my education. As previously mentioned this allowed me to positively comment and negatively comment on decisions I was making as this character. It allowed the Director to notice things I may have not noticed during rehearsals and highlighted them to me, but it also made me think more about the character and subconscious actions I was making.
This performance will be apart of me forever.
